Our Story
History
The emerging Bribie Island Neighbourhood Centre was sponsored by Combined Emergency Care Organizations of Caboolture (CECO) from 1990, when a building was purchased by the Queensland Government’s then Department of Family Services under the Neighbourhood Centre Program.
CECO obtained funding from the Department to operate the Neighbourhood Centre, and in July 1991, the Department funded the newly-formed Family and Individual Support Program. The following year, the Queensland Government also funded BINC’s Family Support Program.
In November 1991, the Bribie Island Neighbourhood Centre Association was formed, with a Management Committee comprised of community-minded Bribie Island local people keen to provide a centre for its community. The association was incorporated in August 1993.
By January 1994, additional funding provided by the Queensland Government enabled BINC to offer services including community education, support groups and counselling and the Centre was able to employ paid staff – a community development worker/co-ordinator, counsellor and part time administrator.
